Why do we want what we can’t have?

25 Feb

So many of us had big dreams when we were little kids, but now we’ve let life get us jaded.  I understand.  You got passed over for a promotion.  Or your goal was to be a millionaire by 30, but now you’re 35 and still paying rent.  Maybe you thought you’d be married with kids by now.  Or you thought you’d be done your degree.

Whatever it is that you want, don’t stop dreaming.  Your blessing could be right around the corner.  Dream big dreams.  Even if you don’t achieve them, at least you will have tried.  You never know what you can accomplish until you try.  Do the things that other people think are crazy.  After all, someone has to win the lottery – (don’t worry, I’m not advocating playing it..lol..but the fact remains that in life, someone has to be rich – so why not you?)  Someone has to be famous, so why not you?  And more importantly, God needs servants who will do His will – why not you?  Of course money and fame don’t matter in the end, but remember that there’s nothing wrong with wanting to be blessed.  We should always aspire for more.  This doesn’t mean that we can’t be satisfied with where we are, because the Bible says that godliness with contentment is great gain.  There’s nothing wrong with wanting a great life and nice things.  Just remember that the Bible says, “where your treasure is, your heart is.”

So seek after the things of God.  Seek to please God and to bring glory to Him with your life.  Seek first the kingdom of God, and then all these things will be added unto you.  When your focus is just on fame, your heart probably isn’t in the right place.  Focus on living out God’s plan for your life.  You never know, His plan might involve fame, but it might not.  But when you’re in God’s will, there’s always great fulfillment.  You may not live in a million dollar home, but you’ll have peace, joy and happiness.  Or maybe you will live in a million dollar home.  We all know the old adage, “money doesn’t buy happiness.”  Either way, with God, you will be happy in the million dollar home or in the apartment.

All in all, don’t give up on your dreams.  Keep working towards them and don’t give up.  Keep honoring God with your talents, and watch Him bless you.  Don’t get discouraged.  We all have ups and downs.  Just keep on trucking.  If you stop, you’ll never come into the blessing.  Stop comparing yourself to others.  You don’t know what they went through to get where you are.  Focus on yourself and on God’s will for YOUR life.  Take your eyes of the Jonses’ and put them back on Jesus.

Just two months ago, I prayed about two situations that I thought could never be reversed.  “The cards are all stacked against me,” I thought – “there’s no way these situations will ever turn around.”  I got frustrated.  I heard the messages about God being a big God, but I still felt discouraged.  Even so, I didn’t stop praying, (even when it hurt.)  Can I tell you something?  Two months later, God changed both situations.  These were things I never thought would change…but in just two months they did.  Wow – we serve a big God!  What if I had given up and stopped praying?  I might never have seen change in areas that I thought were hopeless.

So I encourage you, no matter what the issue is today – don’t give up!  God’s word says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” (Philippians 4:13.)

Be blessed! 🙂

Book will be done w/editing by the end of Feb.  Look out for it!
