Kristin DePola – God says that I’m Beautiful

28 Mar

For the next two weeks, we are doing a series on what God says about
beauty to lead up to our March Lunch, Fashion Show and Beauty Bash
to benefit the Crisis Pregnancy Center. Today’s interview will feature Kristin DePola, Assistant Director of Sally’s Lambs.  I know that you will enjoy hearing from her!

What does beauty mean to you?
I believe that beauty, in an earthly perception, is something that is pleasing and brings happiness. When I see something pretty or smell something yummy or even hear something lovely, it makes me feel happy, and encourages me to be in a good mood.

I believe that beauty, (in a spiritual sense,) is an identifying quality. I believe that whether or not you always feel beautiful in appearance, you can have a deep understanding of the beauty of Christ shining through you, which – in turn, exudes outer beauty.

As women, society seems to focus only on our outer being, and rarely ever on our inner wonder and beauty. I believe that a woman who is secure in her inherent beauty, as a daughter of Christ, can exhibit more beauty than the most popular super model. While physical aesthetics are fun and can enhance your self-esteem, I believe that true beauty comes from knowing that you are uniquely created with exquisite qualities and character by God.

What inner trait about yourself makes you feel beautiful?
I feel that my heart for worship is my most beautiful inner trait. I was born to be a worshipper, and singing and worshipping is at the core of me. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved to sing, and I’ve loved the feeling in my spirit when I’m singing. My dad was a worship leader, so, I believe it is in my spiritual inheritance to also become a worship leader. There is no other time that I feel closer to the Lord or more vulnerable and transparent, than when I’m worshipping. Being intimate with the Lord is always one of the most beautiful moments in my life.

What outer feature about yourself do you love?
The feature I love most about myself is my hair. It’s dark, long, thick and beautifully curly. When I was younger, I didn’t understand my hair. I didn’t know how to tame it or style it. And when I was in my early years of high school, straight hair was popular, so I straightened my hair on a daily basis. It wasn’t until my senior year of high school that I really embraced the fabulousness of my hair. It would take, on average, about an hour to straighten my hair. But, leaving it curly meant only 5 minutes of prep. Now, my hair is one of my trademark features. People will notice my hair in a crowd before they recognize my face.

What is one (inexpensive or free thing) you or other women can do to make themselves feel beautiful?

Personally, my favorite type of pampering is a manicure and/or pedicure. I love the feel of freshly filed and painted finger nails and toe nails, (especially, in the summer.)  I adore getting pedicures in the summer, or even doing it myself while watching TV at night. There is something about the simplicity, (yet special detail of it,) that makes me feel extra pretty.

Thanks again to Kristin for her beautiful interview!
