Enjoy Holiday Eating Without Gaining Weight

Enjoying the holidays without gaining weight??? Say it ain’t so!! 🙂

Well, I’ve been to quite a few holiday parties so far, and I’m here to tell you that it’s possible.

How?? You may be thinking??

For me, since I started following the Paleo Diet, I’ve pretty much been able to eat what I wanted while still losing weight.

The basis is eating like our Paleo Ancestors – meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, nuts, and all natural oils are allowed, while dairy and grains are not.

Recently at a friend’s baby shower, my friends asked about the Paleo diet, (or “lifestyle” as I prefer to call it,) and I told them the thing I loved about it is that I am not denying myself. On my plate that morning for breakfast was bacon, sausage, eggs, and plenty of fruit. Not on my plate – toast, grits, cereal with milk, etc…(You get the idea.)

And yes, I still do cheat one to two times a week, but that’s b/c I do Paleo 85:15, meaning you can have one or two cheats each week whether it’s Starbucks or a small plate of non-Paleo foods at a Christmas party.

You can totally enjoy yourself while still eating yummy foods, and the best part of the Paleo is that there’s no portion control – of course you don’t want to stuff yourself, but you really can eat these foods without worry of gaining weight. Some foods to avoid if you are trying to lose weight on the Paleo would be oils and avocado.

I’ve also been taking my Iaso Skinny Tea which I looove and that’s helped too – so far I’m down 13 pounds. I love my new Total Life Changes biz and it goes right in line with my beliefs on natural and organic living.

I am excited that my mentor Mr. Jason Scott will be present this Sunday to train my entire team along with anyone interested in healthy living – he has made millions from the TLC Biz, and I’m so excited that he’s stopping by Sunday at four during his trip to VA Beach – if you’re interested in coming, just click send me a message, or comment here, and I’ll add you to the invite!

Micah H. – Strong and Healthy to do God’s Work

How do you eat/cook healthy or plan healthy meals on the go?

We try to avoid fast food. If I ever MUST stop in for fast food, I avoid large quantities. Sometimes, I can satisfy hunger on the go with kids meal portions or select healthy choices from their menus. If I MUST get a sandwich, I just don’t add fries and soda; I will buy a bottled water.

We like to keep healthy snacks in the household too. I love Greek yogurt in the morning. Almonds, cranberries, or whole grain tortilla chips are delicious, too.

For dinner, we eat a lot of fish and steam our vegetables. All of our meals at home only take about 30 minutes to make.

What are some easy ways to add fitness or activity to you or your family’s life?

My husband and I love to go jogging together. I really appreciate the change of scenery and companionship. Additionally, I add dance classes and rehearsals to my workout routine. I love “accidental working out”. I want a good workout while enjoying myself and not being completely aware of “the burn”. On a treadmill, time drags, I’m not going anywhere, and after what feels like 30 minutes have passed, I will find where I have only burned 3 calories, ran .01 miles, and have been running for 5 minutes.

What is your favorite way to spend time with the Lord?

I like to start my day with thanksgiving. I read my “Verse of the Day”, asking God to reveal its personal meaning to me throughout the day, and then I say something like, “Thank you, Jesus, for this day” before my to-do list, or impending tasks, or anything else steals my joy.

Help! When I eat healthy I’m always hungry!

This morning, a few of us gals got together so the kiddies could play and the moms could drink coffee on the patio and chat! 🙂

One mama mentioned how she was hungry a lot of the time, which led us to talk about some good food choices.

In addition to taking my all natural Visi Trimma in the morning, (which fills me up,) as well as my Probita protein chews, (which help with late night snacking,) I make sure to do something that many health experts suggest – eat around 5-6 small meals a day instead of the three huge Sunday buffet sized portions that many of us have grown accustomed to!lol…

Here is a sample of what a day might look like, (just to show that you can still eat, and that wellness isn’t about starving yourself.) 🙂

Disclaimer: this is just what I eat on average; it’s not doctor prescribed! ;p

Breakfast: Visi’s Trimma, and a smoothie – water, 4 frozen strawberries, one banana, one orange, coconut flakes

Snack: sliced fruit, 2 all natural chicken nuggets (I eat the kiddies leftovers..lol..), coffee w/organic sugar and creamer

Lunch: whole wheat tortilla chips, bean dip, grilled or baked chicken

Snack: yogurt, fruit, Probita protein chew

Dinner: soup, vegetables, chicken or fish

Snack: fruit, Probita protein chew, or veggies and fat free dip

It may sound extreme, but believe it or not, after a few days of eating mostly fruit, veggies, chicken, fish, and healthy/low fat dips, it really doesn’t feel like you’re starving yourself.  By seasoning your foods and making it flavorful, you won’t really notice that you’re not eating carbs, overly processed foods, or cheese.  Of course I do the occasional cheat too!

Zumba your way to flat abs

After having two babies, it felt like my stomach muscles had flown to Mars never to return!lol…

But I am happy to say that they are returning thanks to two things! 🙂

The first is Zumba, (which allows you to twist and turn your core,) so you are getting an awesome work out every time you do it, and the second is Visi’s Trimma.  It helps to up your metabolism and decrease appetite using all natural plant based nutrients.  I can actually feel my stomach muscles tightening at night on it. 🙂

So even if you’ve had two (almost) ten pound babies like me, all hope is not lost!lol…

The last thing that’s been helping me in my awesome journey is an oldie but goodie: a strawberry banana smoothies in the morning and at night as dessert – just throw in a banana, a few frozen strawberries, and some soy milk, and viola, you’ve got what tastes like  a Frosty from Wendy’s.  You’re welcome!!lol… 🙂

No more fatty midnight snacks

I have never been a huge eater, but the one area that always got me in trouble was the after dinner snacking.  Even if I go to the gym at night, once I get home, I am almost always still hungry, (even after eating a “good” snack like grapes or some other fruit!lol…)

A friend of mine and I were actually just talking about this about an hour ago as our kids played.  She is 7 months pregnant and also is battling the after dinner “I want a fatty snack” monster!lol… 🙂

One way that I’ve been winning this battle is Visi’s protein chews – they look and taste like Starburst, but they are chock full of protein and other all natural nutrients that give me energy and fill me up.  So, around 9 p.m. after I’ve put the kids to bed and feel like I “deserve” a snack after a long day…lol…I pop in a protein chew, and that’s my snack.

My favorite weight-loss/wellness tips!

I don’t pretend to be a doctor for fitness expert; I’m just a normal gal and Momma from the beach who is trying to be healthy and fit.

Often people will want to know about how I lost 80 pounds after having my daughter, so I’ll condense it into the top five – feel free to leave comments or ask questions if there’s anything else you’d like to know! 🙂

(These have worked for me…doesn’t mean they’re for everyone, so just take it for what it’s worth!lol…)

1. Be a social carb eater.  It’s not that I don’t eat carbs – I’ll eat them when I go out with friends, but at home, I don’t eat bread, pasta, rice, or anything like that.  I stick to mostly fruits, veggies, meat, fish, water, and yogurt.

2. Don’t drink your calories.  I drink only water, not juice, or I make my own juice – water, strawberries, banana, and shredded coconut for sweetness.  My daughter loves it.

3. Try out my favorite weight loss/wellness products, Visi’s “Trimma” – all natural, no caffeine, no side effects and they help to suppress appetite.  After having my daughter, the first 11 pounds came off in two weeks, and the rest came off in 3-4 months on Visi. http://www.teamvisi.com/laurenholmes/

4. Eat a few small meals every few hours instead of huge buffet sized meals. 🙂  One small meal I had this morning was peanut butter and bananas, and I’m about to have some yogurt in another minute.

5. Don’t keep bad foods in the house.  Sometimes, I’ll be craving chips or cookies, but because there aren’t any in my house, I’m forced to get creative. 🙂 I’ll make air popped popcorn for the salty taste, or have one of the kids 100 calorie granola bars, (I know, I broke my carb rule!lol…) 🙂

Finally fitting my high school jeans again!

(Disclaimer: I honestly don’t like talking about my weight loss because I don’t want to come across as “bragging” or glorifying being skinny, but after a few close friends have had recent health scares that the doctors told them was caused by extra weight, I knew that now was the time to share.)  🙂

After I had my son, the weight came off in five months.  But my daughter was a different story – it was if my body was being stubborn the second time around!lol…

I didn’t want to just lose weight – I wanted to be healthy, eat right, cook healthy meals, and be an example to my kids.  I wanted to be a Mommy that my kids could look up to.

So I did a total overhaul: in addition to going easy on the carbs, drinking more water, and focusing on eating fruits, veggies, fish, and eating mostly ground turkey or chicken, my good friend also introduced me to some Wellness products that include a weight supplement.

I was very wary at first until my mom suggested them to me.  (She has battled and won the fight against breast cancer, and now only eats only organic foods, and researches any product before using it – so I knew that if she was taking it, then it was indeed all natural.)

The Visi products curbed my appetite and helped me to lose all of my baby weight and then some – now I’m back in my high school jeans.  But it’s not just about being skinny – studies show that extra belly fat can up the risk of heart disease and some cancers.  I want to be in shape for my family, and I want to be around for a long time.  Now that I’ve lost the weight, I am still taking the wellness supplements.

I want this to be an encouragement not just to lose weight, but to get healthy so that you can be around for a long time to enjoy your family and friends.  God says that our body is our temple, and we only get one here on earth, so let’s take care of it! 🙂
