Why I’m Sticking with My Husband

3 Sep

easter 1

So I was getting ready to write a post about healthy eating, but I felt the need to go in a different direction. 🙂  I just finished a book for new brides and married women, but I’m waiting till the end of September to release it after I attend a writing conference in a few weeks in case I get any more pointers.

It seems to be wedding season, and I’ve recently gone to lots of beautiful weddings of both friends and family.  My husband and I just made eight years of marriage this year, and at almost ten years, I feel like we finally know each other, and I pretty much know what he’s thinking even if he doesn’t speak.  We’ve been through the newlywed growing pains, kids, job changes, expectations that were and weren’t met, and dealt with both good times and bad times.  I think back to my wedding and how I wanted the day to be just perfect, not realizing that the wedding day would go by so fast, and then I actually had to know how to live with and get along with this new person 24/7.  🙂

So if I could share anything about marriage with married people, whether newlyweds, singles, or those who have been married, it would be this.

  1. Your spouse doesn’t complete you.  If you were happy before them, you’ll be happy after them.  If you were sad before marriage, you’ll be sad after marriage. Getting married won’t complete you – you should find wholeness in Christ.  Putting the expectation on your spouse of making you happy isn’t fair.  Marriage will teach you about yourself and refine you, but nowhere in the Bible does it say that your spouse is meant to complete you.
  2. Choose your battles wisely.  Some (small) things – you just have to let go.  I kind of look at it the same way that I look at my employees.  If they do something wrong, I try not tell them right then, and micromanage.  If it’s something I need to go over, I’ll make a note of it and tell them the next day.  I don’t want them to feel like I’m a dragon breathing down their necks!  🙂  ….same with my husband.  If there’s something we need to confront, I’ll do my best to ask myself if I’ve added to the problem, if it’s a good time to discuss it with him, if it’s a large issue that needs to be confronted, or if it’s just something small that annoys me that I really don’t need to be upset about at all.
  3. The grass isn’t greener on the other side.  With the recent Ashley Madison scandal, it really became obvious to me that a lot of people are looking for satisfaction outside of their marriage – I am not judging them b/c we have all made mistakes, I’m just saying that it made me think.  My thing is, if I’ve already invested eight years into my marriage and have children and home, I’m going to fight to make my marriage work.  I married a wonderful man.  Yes; we have our differing opinions sometimes, but so does every couple – no two people are exactly alike.  Instead of going out and cheating, I would rather try and work things out with my husband, build our marriage, spend time as a family, and work on things that need to be sorted out.  I have no intentions of ever leaving my husband, but just for rhetorical purposes, if I did, the new person might have some qualities that my husband didn’t have, but my husband would still have things the new person didn’t have.  Why start over?  No one person is ever going to meet your needs 100% of the time – stick with the person God gave you, make your marriage better, and enjoy the spouse that God blessed you with! 🙂  (I am not speaking to issues of abuse or cheating – I am speaking to those who have good spouses but are considering wandering..)

I could go on so I think I’ll do a part two and keep going to till the book comes out.  🙂  Stick with the partner of your youth that God blessed you with!  If you are thinking of straying, think of what attracted you to your spouse to begin with.  Light the fire again!  🙂  Get help if need be, get off the blogs that showcase perfect marriages, talk to real people who have good marriages, read marriage books, and try and put yourself in your partner’s shoes.

I wanted to share this Hillsong worship song “I Surrender” with you all – it’s about surrendering to God in every area!

Blessings,

Lauren

Weight Loss Zumba Workout, Yummy Smoothie Recipe, and Chocolate Soap Giveaway

31 Jan

Hey everyone!  I just had a great workout this morning, and wanted to share some fitness tips with you that I’ve recently started up again.  : )  As you probably know, I started two businesses a year ago, (an organic beauty company and a Preschool) and got super busy – so busy that I didn’t always have time for my daily Zumba workouts anymore.  😦  When I had my first baby, I lost 80 pounds doing 1 to 2 hours of Zumba a day, so I’m back at it again!  🙂  (…Not trying to lose 80 pounds, just getting back to my beloved Zumba.)  🙂

So here is the recipe for the breakfast that I have most mornings: one boiled egg with salt and pepper, and a Yummy Berry Smoothie: (blueberries, strawberries, half a banana, pineapple, apples, and tangerines.)  (A quick tip to preserve fruits is that anytime my kids or I don’t eat all of our fruit, or if fruit is starting to get too ripe, I throw it in a tupperware in the freezer.  That way, fruit NEVER goes to waste, and you get your full money’s worth.  🙂

smoothie

For my favorite Zumba workouts, I started a Fitness youtube channel – feel free to subscribe to it, as I’ll be adding more fitness videos, smoothie and Nutra Bullet recipes, and natural health videos.  I have started doing this workout playlist every day – usually around 9 p.m. to relax after a long day, and sometimes my kids even do some of the workouts with me – their favorite workout is “Animals” b/c they recognize the song from when Daddy watches football.  🙂

I hope that helps!  If you have any fitness or health tips or videos, please share in the comments below! 🙂 I will also choose one lucky winner to receive a FREE chocolate organic soap from my Lauren’s Lathers Organic Beauty line – just comment on the facebook blog post or in the comments below telling why you’d like to win!

Simisola Okai – God says that I’m Beautiful

27 Mar

Simisola

For the next two weeks, we are doing a series on what God says about
beauty to lead up to our March Lunch, Fashion Show and Beauty Bash
to benefit the Crisis Pregnancy Center. Today’s interview will feature
Simisola Okai, TV Producer for CBN International.  I know that
you will enjoy hearing from her!

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty for me means being a reflection of something pleasant, hopeful and full of promise. When I think of the true meaning of beauty, I am reminded of 1 Peter 3:3-4 which says, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

Overall, I believe that true beauty should start from the inside and then radiate out.

What inner trait about yourself makes you feel beautiful?

I feel most beautiful when I remember how much I am loved and how precious I am to God. There are so many days when I wake up feeling unattractive, but when I think about how valuable I am to God, and how He carefully handcrafted every single part of my being- I feel absolutely stunning.

What outer feature about yourself do you love?

My favorite feature would have to be my eyes. I like their distinct shape, and I love that it is a feature that I share with most of my family members.

What is one (inexpensive or free thing) you or other women can do to make themselves feel beautiful?

Surround yourself with positive, loving and supportive people. It is sure to make you feel extra beautiful.

Blessings,

Simisola

Demetria Stallings – God says that I’m Beautiful

26 Mar

For the next two weeks, we are doing a series on what God says about beauty to lead up to our March Lunch, Fashion Show and and Beauty Bash to benefit the Crisis Pregnancy Center. Today’s interview will feature Demetria Stallings, Fashionista and CEO of LifeStyles, and I know that you will enjoy hearing from her!

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty… It’s fascinating; the word itself makes you smile. I love the definition that Webster gives us; Beauty is “A combination of qualities that pleases the intellect or moral sense.” Our minds are beautiful, and it is amazing when we use it to discover who we are. So many times our society deems beauty as what is beheld through ones appearance; I beg to differ. Beauty is that which is within, creating space for life to breathe in the corridors of who we truly are. If it’s not life giving, it’s not beauty.

What inner trait about yourself makes you feel beautiful?

One of the inner traits I believe I possess is the power to dream, and help others to discover their passions! There is nothing more exciting than to see the bigger picture and know that there are no limits! I feel most beautiful when I use my life to inspire others to reach beyond the stars!

What outer feature about yourself do you love?

You know, I love my smile and eyes that God has given me. However; if I had to pick one thing, I would chose my smile; I’ve been told that it lights up a room…once again, light is life…

What is one (inexpensive or free thing) you or other women can do to make themselves feel beautiful?

Women are powerful when they put their minds to whatever it is they want to do. Therefore, a free way for women to make themselves feel beautiful is to incorporate the “I am factor” daily. Joel Osteen and Tudor Bismark both said… “Whatever follows I am comes looking for you.” So when you wake up, while you are driving to a destination, or when you go to bed, say out loud who you are! I am beautiful, I am smart, I am happy, I am a daughter of God! I AM … and watch, it will come and find you!

Blessings,

Demetria

Ginger Savage – God says that I’m Beautiful

18 Mar

beauty 1

For the next two weeks, we are doing a series on what God says about beauty to lead up to our March Beauty Bash and Lunch to benefit the Crisis Pregnancy Center. Today’s interview will feature Ginger Savage, Founder of “Thankful for Girlfriends,” a Ruby Official Director at Traci Lynn Fashion Jewelry, and an amazingly beautiful woman of God, (both inside and out.) I know that you will enjoy hearing from her!

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty is an internal glow that radiates out. It’s that special magnetic force that will draw you to a person regardless of their physical appearance. It’s an assurance of who we really are that spills out the world. It’s that light…that God given confidence; a kindness, a softness that comes from a heart that is fulfilled.

What inner trait about yourself makes you feel beautiful?

I love the fact that my compassion for women allows me to be a connector, and that is a beautiful thing. I enjoy bringing women together, who may have never crossed paths in day to day life, to share, uplift and heal. It’s the healing place that the real beauty begins to shine. When those I am around feel beautiful and encouraged, I, in turn feel the same. There is nothing like knowing that women CAN build one another up, and understand that by doing so, it takes absolutely nothing away from who or what they are, but actually adds to who they are.

What outer feature about yourself do you love?

I absolutely love my smile. Not because it’s the best, but because it’s sincere, and it’s through the grace of God! My smile says “I’m still here, I’m still in the fight, I still have joy, and you can’t take that from me.”   If I’m not smiling, you should probably just find me some coffee and all will be OK.  🙂

What is one (inexpensive or free thing) you or other women can do to make themselves feel beautiful?

One free thing that any woman can do to make herself feel pretty is to put in the effort. Whether it’s a big effort or a small effort, I believe that initiative is rewarded. Often, women are notorious for “looking the way we feel,” especially when our home life is off, or we are tired.

…Especially us mothers who wear so many hats… we may think that we don’t have the time to think about doing something for ourselves, but we must! If each day we take a look at ourselves and say “I value me and I value myself enough show others that I care about my appearance,” and simply just TRY to make an effort, it will pay off.

Try a new lip gloss shade, part your hair a different way, get out of those baby friendly sweats, change your hair color, put on a sexy nightgown (married folks!,) try a higher heel, paint those nails, get the crust off your feet, add a belt around your waist, put on some smell good lotion that makes you feel pretty – whatever it is, just put in the effort. Effort is free, and it can only come from you. God said you fearfully & wonderfully made, so work it!

Blessings,

Ginger
