Enjoy Holiday Eating Without Gaining Weight

Enjoying the holidays without gaining weight??? Say it ain’t so!! 🙂

Well, I’ve been to quite a few holiday parties so far, and I’m here to tell you that it’s possible.

How?? You may be thinking??

For me, since I started following the Paleo Diet, I’ve pretty much been able to eat what I wanted while still losing weight.

The basis is eating like our Paleo Ancestors – meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, nuts, and all natural oils are allowed, while dairy and grains are not.

Recently at a friend’s baby shower, my friends asked about the Paleo diet, (or “lifestyle” as I prefer to call it,) and I told them the thing I loved about it is that I am not denying myself. On my plate that morning for breakfast was bacon, sausage, eggs, and plenty of fruit. Not on my plate – toast, grits, cereal with milk, etc…(You get the idea.)

And yes, I still do cheat one to two times a week, but that’s b/c I do Paleo 85:15, meaning you can have one or two cheats each week whether it’s Starbucks or a small plate of non-Paleo foods at a Christmas party.

You can totally enjoy yourself while still eating yummy foods, and the best part of the Paleo is that there’s no portion control – of course you don’t want to stuff yourself, but you really can eat these foods without worry of gaining weight. Some foods to avoid if you are trying to lose weight on the Paleo would be oils and avocado.

I’ve also been taking my Iaso Skinny Tea which I looove and that’s helped too – so far I’m down 13 pounds. I love my new Total Life Changes biz and it goes right in line with my beliefs on natural and organic living.

Breast/Prostate Cancer Prevention Plan

This post is for anyone who wants to prevent cancer before it strikes, and who wants to do everything that they can to keep it from reaching themselves and their family members.  This isn’t a diet, but rather some ideas for meals and foods that will help to lower your risk of these types of cancers – these ideas are meant for adult males and females, and not necessarily children, (although eating nutritious is always good for kids too.) 🙂  (Disclaimer – I am not a doctor or nutritionist, but rather, a health conscious, stay at home Mom who wants to keep her family healthy.)  🙂

I hope that you enjoy the list, (which was compiled after researching about 20 different health-related websites to find the most common cancer fighting foods that showed up.)  🙂

Breast/Prostate Cancer Prevention Diet

Breakfast

Smoothie with organic milk, protein, flaxseed, blueberry, strawberry, orange, and kale

Boiled egg

Green Tea

Whole Grain Oatmeal

Snack

Walnuts, almonds, Brazil nuts

Pomegranate Juice

Apples/grapes/above fruits

Lunch

Vegetable Stir fry – kale, onion, mushrooms, Garlic, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots (spices – curry and turmeric)

Brussel sprouts

Cabbage

Bell peppers

Sweet potatoes

Dinner

Whole grain (rye) bread sandwiches w/veggies

Lentil soup with onion and garlic

Salmon

  • Prostate cancer prevention (foods to eat) – cooked tomatoes, soybeans, yellow and green veggies, zinc, kidney beans, chick peas, peanuts, grapes, watermelon, lemons, peppers, avocados
  • Avoid breast cancer (foods to avoid) – red meat, fried food, flour, sugar, cake, candy, chips, grilled meat
  • Avoid prostate cancer (foods to avoid) – lots of milk, cheese, yogurt, meat, folic acid found in multi-vitamins, red meat, fast food, sugar, French fries, potato chips, grilled foods, calcium supplements

Micah H. – Strong and Healthy to do God’s Work

How do you eat/cook healthy or plan healthy meals on the go?

We try to avoid fast food. If I ever MUST stop in for fast food, I avoid large quantities. Sometimes, I can satisfy hunger on the go with kids meal portions or select healthy choices from their menus. If I MUST get a sandwich, I just don’t add fries and soda; I will buy a bottled water.

We like to keep healthy snacks in the household too. I love Greek yogurt in the morning. Almonds, cranberries, or whole grain tortilla chips are delicious, too.

For dinner, we eat a lot of fish and steam our vegetables. All of our meals at home only take about 30 minutes to make.

What are some easy ways to add fitness or activity to you or your family’s life?

My husband and I love to go jogging together. I really appreciate the change of scenery and companionship. Additionally, I add dance classes and rehearsals to my workout routine. I love “accidental working out”. I want a good workout while enjoying myself and not being completely aware of “the burn”. On a treadmill, time drags, I’m not going anywhere, and after what feels like 30 minutes have passed, I will find where I have only burned 3 calories, ran .01 miles, and have been running for 5 minutes.

What is your favorite way to spend time with the Lord?

I like to start my day with thanksgiving. I read my “Verse of the Day”, asking God to reveal its personal meaning to me throughout the day, and then I say something like, “Thank you, Jesus, for this day” before my to-do list, or impending tasks, or anything else steals my joy.

Zumba your way to flat abs

After having two babies, it felt like my stomach muscles had flown to Mars never to return!lol…

But I am happy to say that they are returning thanks to two things! 🙂

The first is Zumba, (which allows you to twist and turn your core,) so you are getting an awesome work out every time you do it, and the second is Visi’s Trimma.  It helps to up your metabolism and decrease appetite using all natural plant based nutrients.  I can actually feel my stomach muscles tightening at night on it. 🙂

So even if you’ve had two (almost) ten pound babies like me, all hope is not lost!lol…

The last thing that’s been helping me in my awesome journey is an oldie but goodie: a strawberry banana smoothies in the morning and at night as dessert – just throw in a banana, a few frozen strawberries, and some soy milk, and viola, you’ve got what tastes like  a Frosty from Wendy’s.  You’re welcome!!lol… 🙂

Blessings and remember that it’s ok to eat that extra hot dog or hamburger today…you can Zumba later!!

Finally fitting my high school jeans again!

(Disclaimer: I honestly don’t like talking about my weight loss because I don’t want to come across as “bragging” or glorifying being skinny, but after a few close friends have had recent health scares that the doctors told them was caused by extra weight, I knew that now was the time to share.)  🙂

After I had my son, the weight came off in five months.  But my daughter was a different story – it was if my body was being stubborn the second time around!lol…

I didn’t want to just lose weight – I wanted to be healthy, eat right, cook healthy meals, and be an example to my kids.  I wanted to be a Mommy that my kids could look up to.

So I did a total overhaul: in addition to going easy on the carbs, drinking more water, and focusing on eating fruits, veggies, fish, and eating mostly ground turkey or chicken, my good friend also introduced me to some Wellness products that include a weight supplement.

I was very wary at first until my mom suggested them to me.  (She has battled and won the fight against breast cancer, and now only eats only organic foods, and researches any product before using it – so I knew that if she was taking it, then it was indeed all natural.)

The Visi products curbed my appetite and helped me to lose all of my baby weight and then some – now I’m back in my high school jeans.  But it’s not just about being skinny – studies show that extra belly fat can up the risk of heart disease and some cancers.  I want to be in shape for my family, and I want to be around for a long time.  Now that I’ve lost the weight, I am still taking the wellness supplements.

I want this to be an encouragement not just to lose weight, but to get healthy so that you can be around for a long time to enjoy your family and friends.  God says that our body is our temple, and we only get one here on earth, so let’s take care of it! 🙂

Eighty Pounds Gone!!

So I never actually have said this publicly, but I lost almost 80 pounds since having my daughter.  Definitely not an easy journey for sure, but one that God and I took together. 🙂

Lots of people will want to know how I did it, and it’s simple to say, yet hard to do. 🙂  It was a lot of Zumba, working out at the YMCA, and eating at home.  (Oh, and also going easy on the carbs!lol…)

But the thing that I realized this time around was that eating at home was probably the leading factor in my weight loss.  Once I cut out the greasy fast foods and started making my own foods, I was still eating yummy foods, they were just healthy and home-made.

Even when I couldn’t work out, I was still losing weight just because of my healthy food choices. (I wasn’t hungry either!) 🙂

Over time, I lost not only all of my weight from my daughter, but surpassed my pre-baby weight, and now I have a whole new wardrobe: my jeans and tops from high school!

While I’m excited for myself, I want everyone to be healthy…not skinny, but healthy. 🙂  And I believe God wants us to be healthy and strong to do His work more effectively.

This is why I’ve partnered with Chef Deena to teach women how to cook amazing meals at home. 🙂

I would love to get you signed up for our affordable cooking class.  We start this Saturday at 6 p.m., and we’ll be sampling and learning how to cook amazing and healthy home-made meals, and then relaxing in the pool and jacuzzi.  I hope to see you there! 🙂
